Hive of Sisters

This nonfiction story, published in February 2023 in Issue 20 of the Chautauqua Literary Journal, tells of my years as a beekeeper. This story is condensed from a chapter in my forthcoming memoir.

A bittersweet note: this essay was the last I had the privilege of having workshopped and edited by the late author and musician Philip Gerard. Much gratitude to his wife, Jill Gerard, for her ongoing work as editor of the Chautauqua Literary Journal.  Philip and Jill are some of the kindest, most encouraging, community-minded people I have had the honor to know.

Rest well, Philip Gerard. You are missed in countless ways by so many.
